Kelly Cannell Honored with 2024 Polygon Award in First Nations Art

We are thrilled to announce that Kelly Cannell has been selected as one of the recipients of the prestigious 2024 Polygon Award in First Nations Art by the BC Achievement Foundation. This recognition celebrates Kelly's outstanding contributions to the world of art and her commitment to her craft.

The Polygon Award in First Nations Art, now in its 18th year, acknowledges artists who have demonstrated a sustained dedication to their artistic practice, accumulated a significant body of work, and earned recognition within their communities. Kelly's selection for this award is a testament to her exceptional talent and the impact of her art on both local and global scales.

From a young age, Kelly has been immersed in the world of art, working alongside her mother, the renowned artist Susan Point. Beginning at just 12 years old, Kelly mastered the art of storytelling through her work, learning the traditional and contemporary imagery of the Musqueam people. Her unique artistic vision continues to push boundaries, blending traditional forms with innovative materials and scales.

Kelly's artwork can be found in private, corporate, and public collections worldwide, including numerous installations across Metro Vancouver. Her commitment to philanthropy is equally noteworthy, as she generously donates her time and artwork to support various causes, particularly those focused on environmental awareness.

The BC Achievement Foundation will host an award ceremony and dinner on November 19 at the Roundhouse Community Arts & Recreation Centre to honor Kelly and the other recipients. Additionally, an exhibition showcasing the awardees' work will be open to the public from November 18 to 24 at the same venue.

This recognition further cements Kelly's status as a prominent artist, leaving an indelible mark on Vancouver's cultural landscape and beyond.

Congratulations, Kelly, on this well-deserved honour!
